After paying working expenses, the net return on the capital invested is £4 10s 4d per cenc. the deposits in the Government Savings Bank increased by £2,500,000, the total balance to the credit of the 430,000 depositors being £18,612,0uu. In the estimates, the proposed exPenditure on public works totals £6,----ud 1,0, including £2,427,000 for new railways duplications, and rolling S r_?k'i The Treasurer anticipates no difficulty in raising the loan money required, and has every confidence that they will be able to provide £6,000,000. It is proposed to raise £200,000 new taxation from the probate stamp duties, and £70,000 from the readjustment of the income tax. Last year 7734 buildings were completed in Sydney and suburbs at a cost of £4,495,017, which is a record. The total overseas trade amounted to £59,504,529, an increase of £4,----230,385 on last year. The excess of exports over imports was nearly £5,----009,000. Butter exports increased by 6,006,000 pounds. The Treasurer anticipated a decrease in the wool clip, owing to the drought, but a satisfactory harvest.
