"THE CRUCIFIXION" BY WESLEY CHOIR.
AYesley Choir last night gave, in the church, a very enjoyable andsuc- - cessful rendering of Stainer's mediation on the isacred passing of the Holy Redeemer, known as "The Crucifixion." The work, produced under the baton of Mr H. Temple White, was wing witlh a full appreciation of its theme, and rendered in prue religious spirit. The work contains numerous mi tubers for a tenor or a bass, and these were well sung by Messrs Gilford iiiul Shelton respectively, both singers having evidently closely .studied their scores. Mr Kirk sang the subsidiary bass parts. The chorus was well balanced, and, (Mi tire whole, did well, and managed to keep the lengihy hymns from becoming monotonous. Tlie success of the ■evening was scored in the rendition of the fine unaccompanied chorus. ''(Jed xo Loved the World,", with which the choir, in our opinion could score at any festival Mr White presided at t-he organ during most of the evening, and his accompaniments, as well as his rendering of "The Processional to Calvary" was in keeping with bis general interpretation of the composition. On several ■occasions'-, when the", services of his !>:t-tn;i were required.. Mr AYliito was relieved at t'lve organ by Miss Valeric Howater.- a young Samloniaii, who played with'a taste and skill which promise well for her future as an organist and does credit to her teacher (MY AYhite). The Rev. MY Frost gave the religious exercises at the opening and closing of the concert, and the congregation well filled the church.
