The wharf labourers turned down a conciliatory suggestion by ActingPremier Hughes regarding the handling of cement in bags. The Hon. A. C. Carmichael, Act-ing-Treasurer, afterwards declared that the Government had one duty to perform—ihat is to see, where a body of men refuse certain work, they are not to prevent others doing it.
