ANTARCTICA.
IN DEFENCE OF AMUNDSEN. BY ELEOTBIC TELEGBAPH— COPTHISHT. (PEE PEESS ASSOCIATION.) London, April 26. Nansen, in a letter to The Times on Captain Amundsen's Antarctic expedition, says an unfair act of any kind is entirely alien to Amundsen's character. Peary's success has led to the withdrawal of support for the North Pole expedition. He stated that lie was not landing near Captain Scott's expedition. Nansen remarks: "Had I known of the change of plan I might have warned him that it would be too hard a strain to first proceed on a trying South Polar expedition, and then straightway go to a drift voyage across the North Polar basin, calculate! to occupy five years." He approves of Darwin's speech, statins that the two bases aro far apart. Both explorers will supplement each other's discoveries.
