BUNNYTHORPE.

(Our Own Correspondent.) With the rest of the district, we have experienced excessively cold weather, Tuesday being the coldest day this season. Notwithstanding , that, the contractors have commenced metalling the roads. Some of them are in a dreadful state, especially the Bunnythorpe-Ashhurst road. By the way, when such exorbitant rates are being charged on properties we have a right to expect that mir roads should be kept in far better trim than they havo been of late. In one instance I know of, the raced come to within a fraction of 4s per acre, which, comparatively speaking, is almost a rental. I notice many of the boys attending school go there on stilts, and I do not wonder at it, considering the mud and slush they have to go through. I hear that Mr H. Spiers has disposed of his farm to Mr C. Gore. We all hope Mr Spiers will still continue to reside in this district, {'.s both he and Mrs Spiers have, by their genial manner and kindness, made themselves deservedly popular amongst us, and we shall be very sorry if they leave this part. On Friday evening a grand social is to be held in our Public Hall, on behalf of the Anglican Church extension fund. No doubt there will bo a large gathering, as the tickets have gone off like .hot cakes, through the indefatigable exertions of Mr Spiers and others. Mr D. L. Smith, J.P., left here last Thursday to take the s.s. Corintluc on a trip to the Old Country. We all wish him bon voyage and a safe return.
