BUNNYTHORPE.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) In oonneotion with the recent meeting of delegates of the L0.0.F.. M.U., held here, and as little has been yet published about the smoke con- , cert, I thought it might interest some of your readers to know something of , the function. First and foremost every credit is due to the social committee for the perfect arrangements. The guest, numbering quite a hundrod, including about thirty delegates, were accommodated in the large room of our Public Hall, two tables running paralled to each other the whole length of the room being crowded with eatables and fruit of alt kinds, but the most noticeable feature was the absence of all intoxicating drinks. Therefore, as was passed during the. evening, Bunnythorpe took the lead in giving a purely temperance smokeconcert ; of course cigars and cigarettes were plentiful enough. Well the temperance experiment appeared to be thoroughly successful, and during the evening many favourable allusions were made to it. G.M. Bro. Pawson occupied the chair, snd Deputy G.M. Bro. Thurgood the vice-chair. A splendid programme was gone through, some excellent songs, and toasts, and a grand recitation "The Death of Montrose," by P.G.M. Bro. D. Madden, was highly appreciated. The caterer, Mr Malmo, our local confectioner, may also be congratulated upon the excellent aud beautiful confectionery provided. The whole affair was a success in overy way, and it was in the " wee sma hours " that we wended our ways homewards. I regret to say there is a consideramount of sickness around here. Mr Arnold is very ill ; Messrs G. Ranson and Sydney Jefferies are also ill, and in fact many others. There seems to be an epidemio of la grippe over the place, To-day (Monday) there has been quite a number of detectives and polico around here. I understand that we have also been honored by a visit from the Commissioner of Police, Mr Dinnie. Considerable excitement exists here and various reasons are afloat ; amongst them it is reported that there are suspicions of more persons being implicated in the late outrage. This I give just for what it is worth, it may or it may not be true. On Monday evening a most enjoyable evening was spent by our Euchre Club and their visitors from Stoney Creek. A euchre tournament took place between the two Clubs, that is Bunnythorpe and Stoney Creek, Bunnythorpe winning by four games. The roads around here require more metal on them. Some of them are in a very bad way, especially the Bunny-thorpe-Ashhurst Road close to the township, there being two very ugly holes just in the middle of the road.
