[Per Press Association.] Hokitika, Thursday. Mr T. Y. Seddon, M.H.R, is having splendid weather for his Sonth Westland trip. He was accorded a great reception at Okarito yesterday, when the settlers gathered from all quarters. His speech made a good impression. Later on he took deputations on local matters. He is going as far south as Karangarua, which he wiU reach on Saturday, and wiU be entertained at a dinner. He expects to leave the Coast abont the 10th for Wellington via Christchurch. Wellington, Thursday. During the past seven months, New Zealand e-qxxrted 327,928 ounces of gold, valued at £1,324,446, an increase of 34,366 ounces of the value of £140,226, compared with the corresponding period of last year. The export of gold for last month was 62,807 ounces, as against 42,966 in July of last year. Christchurch, Wednesday. Mr Bishop, S.M., to-day gave judgment for £26 damages and oosts against the Tramway Company, a motorman in whose employ neglected to take proper precautions in a block of traffic in Victoria Street, and collided with a trap given by Mrs Lloyd. The trap was capsized, and tiie lady injured. Mr Bishop, S.M., heard further evidence in the case, Sinclair v. Freeman, in which £66 16s bd is olaimed from defendant company, who catered for.a wedding breakfast in March last, supplying certain trifle, after partaking of which a number of guests suffered severely from what was believed to be ptomaine poisoning. The Magistrate said the evidence adduced was not sufficient to warrant him in giving judgment for plaintiff, and he gave judgment for defendant accordingly.
