Sydney, Thi- Day. The violent storm in Sydney yesternight lasted a few minutes, but did considerable damage, especially in the northern suburbs, where a number of houses were unroofed, trees were uplifted, and much havoc was done to orchards. The rate of the wind was fifty miles an hour. The damage by the storm to the wheat crops in the Riverina district was ruinous to many farmers. The force of the wind at Berrigan may be judged by the fact that a thousand gallon tank was lifted bodily, and carried for a mile. Melbourne, This Day. The storm did immense damage, especially in the country, to property and to crops. In the Castlemaine district it is estimated the damage is fifty thousand pounds. A relief fund has been started for the people rendered homeless. The wheat crops in some districts were practically ruined. Fitzgerald's circus suffered badly from the cyclone. The immense tent was riddled and completely destroyed by the hail stones. There was a panic amongst the animals. The devastation in the country is widespread. Besides the destruction to house property tho losses in crops, stock, and orchards is very severe.
