RAILWAY RETURNS.
The following are the traffic returns for the Wellington-Napier- New Plymouth section for the four weeks ending May 27th, 1899, and for the corresponding four weeks in 1898.
£27,838 0 2 £28,548 12 8 This is the first time tbere has been a falling off for many months. Tbe total receipts of the colony to date were £123,896 10s, as against £113,724 10s 7d for tbe same period last year, so that although our section has receded £700 for the four weeks, the railways as a whole have increased by a very substantial amount. The reduction was caused by fewer sheep being forwarded, 60,933 against 77,085 for 1898.
