Having a deficiency of 48 to make up Worrall and Darling started the second innings of the Australians With the score at 34 Worrall was caught by Tyldesley off Young. Hill joined Darling, but Hearne bowled him for a duck. Two for 34.

Gregory was next and was caught by MacLaren off Hearne without scoring. Three for 34. Noble next shared the same fate, Ranji catching him off Hearne. Four for 34.

Trumper partnered Darling, the latter being almost immediately dismissed. Five for 39.

Hearne did the hat trick, and the the crowd excitedly shouted, " Five to one on England.
