YOUNG WOMAN SHOT
MAN CHARGED WITH MURDER
TE KUITI, This Day.
P.A. TE KUITI, This Day. A half-caste Maori woman, Mrs. Lois Ypres Fitzgerald, 25, died in the Te Kuiti Hospital yesterday, morning from a gunshot wound in the breast inflicted shortly after midnight on Saturday.
This morning Keith Bennett, 26, a pafceha returned soldier, was charged with murdering her and was remanded to appear at Auckland.
The shooting occurred near a gateway in Rata Street, opposite the rooms which Mrs. Fitzgerald occupied, and was reported by Bennett to Constable Reid, who lived near by, and who placed him under arrest foi? attempted murder.
The deceased, who had two children, had been living apart from her husband, who resides in Wanganui.
Bennett comes from Taumarunui, but has been for some weeks in Te Kuiti. He .returned to New Zealand in February after being overseas for four years.
