SHIPPING POOL
OPERATIONS BEGUN
GREAT TONNAGE CONTROLLED

The War Shipping Administrator, Admiral Emory S. Land, announced that the United Maritime Authority, the supreme agency for the United Nations and co-operating neutrals, formally began operations today. The new organisation begins largely as the result of the termination of the European war.
The combined Shipping Adjustment Board will continue to function repecting Pacific war shipping. The Maritime Authority will allocate the remaining shipping among the signatory nations, including Britain. America. Australia. India, Canada, Norway, the Netherlands, France, Belgium Greece. Poland, and Sweden. The pool includes 8000 ships of a total displacement of 80,000.000 tons.
