ENEMY INTERNEES
PAUA SHELL WORK
"Will the Prime Minister tell the House who authorised the supply to enemy internees of the machinery and plant to manufacture paua shell ornaments and thus seriously injure the trade of the disabled soldiers?" asked Mr. G. F. Sim (National, Rotorua) in a notice of question in the House of Representatives yesterday. _ Mr. Sim also inquired whether an increased supply of petrol had been granted to fishermen of Stewart Island to enable supplies of paua shell to be made available to disabled soldiers, and who diverted the supplies from the disabled soldiers to enemy internees on Somes Island He asked for an explanation of what was done with the profits arising from the work of the internees and if it were a fact that after the supply of shell to the internees had been stopped they refused to sell their machinery and plant. Mr. Sim also inquired whether the Prime Minister would see that the plant was made available to disabled soldiers and whether he would arrange for them to be trained in the use of such modern machinery.
