BAPTISMAL FONT
TRANSFER TO BROOKLYN
The baptismal font used at Wesley Church for the past 95 years was handed over to the Brooklyn Methodist Church at the last meeting of the Wellington Central Methodist Circuit. Following the dedication of the Percy Paris Memorial Font in Wesley Church it was decided to transfer the font in use up to that time to Brooklyn. Mr W. H. Denton, on behalf of the descendants of Mr. and, Mrs. George Bennett, who presented the font to Wesley Church*' Manners Street, in 1849, handed the font to the Rev. Campbell P. Lucas, minister of the Brooklyn Church. The font is made of maire and was turned by Mr. Bennett soon after his arrival in Wellington in 1848. The Rev. Ashleigh K. Petchr on behalf of the officials of the circuit, expressed , pleasure that so many of the, descendants were able to be present, representing the Bennett, Denton, and Ralph families now resident in Wellington. _____i'
