WELLINGTON SOUTH
Mr E. R. Toop, National Party candidate for "Wellington South, addressed an enthusiastic meeting in St. Hilda s Hall last night. He dealt with the effect of debased currency on wages, saying that it had throughout the centuries been considered one of the worst crimes a Government or ruler could commit. Leaving out the war years he showed how the issue of bank credit and notes had affected the import position, how the import restrictions had forced into being mushroom industries, and how that in turn had brought about trade by licence which now constituted a monopoly.
