SIR HARRY OAKES

NEW YORK, July 8. The death has occurred of Sir Harry Oakes, one of the richest men in the world. His body was found this morning at Nassau, in the Bahamas. Officials immediately launched an investigation. Sir Harry Oakes, who married a Sydney girl, Eunice Mclntyre, traversed the world in search of gold. He visited the Yukon, Alaska, the Philippines. Australia, New Zealand, and the United States. He arrived in northern Ontario in 1911 and a year later discovered the Lake fjhore Mine. In the same year he staked the f ougie Owkes Mines, which made him a multi-millionaire. He is reputed to have been the only prospector in Canadian mining annals who staked property, financed it, and carried it through to the dividend stage.
