■ft> ■' . " . -, ■ —— LIGHTING RESTRICTIONS EMERGENCY REGULATIONS, 1941. REDUCED LIGHTING THE EMERGENCY LIGHTING REGULATIONS came into being on February 14, 1911. and will continue to be enforced until the Act is cancelled. Have you realised your responsibility in connection with your premises and to your followcltlzens by seeing that you have carried out the Regulations. If the Regulations are not carried out it may mean disaster to your locality by enemy action, and severe penalties can be brought Into operation if any person commits an oitence against the Regulations. The main points to be observed are set out hereunder for your guidance:— • (a) Completely obscure all lights showing seawards. This means that windows, fanlights, glass doors, etc., are to be fitted with suitable blinds or screens to TOTALLY PR_- ' VENT THE EMISSION OF LIGHT. (b) All other windows, fanlights, doorways, and entrances to be adequately screened to "?■ prevent the direct emission of light. " (c) Do not leave your porch, sun-room, garage, or entrance lights on after 6unset. IHlfa IS MOST IMPORTANT. « . (d) Disconnect (or remove) the bulb from any outside or yard light. Under no circumstances must outside lights BE USED AFTER DUSK OR BEFORE DAWN. ". (c) Do not allow rubbish or any outside fires to burn after sunset or before dawn. Rubbish fires must be quenched before sunset. A rubbish fire burning after dusk would destroy the object of reduced lighting under the Regulations. Even though your house may not be open to the sea, sky glow produced by light from your windows, porchways, and outside lights can easily destroy the good work of your neighbouring citizens in their effort to reduce lighting and w sky glare. Tl It is not Intended to impose complete black-out conditions unless in a state of emergency, but you are asked as a citizen to make sure that you prevent:— 1. The emission of any light visible from the sea. 2. Sky glow anywhere. 3. Unscreened windows anywhere. Street lighting Is under direct control and can be immediately blacked-out on the alarm 'being sounded. Lights in the street are necessary for the safety of pedestrians and vehicular ra It is for national security that the Reduced Lighting Regulations have been introduced. -We as a part of the Empire, are fighting for our existence, and for everything that life within the Great Empire stands for. Our contribution to the common cause cannot be of the . piecemeal variety, therefore make certain that you are doing your part in carrying out the Regulations set out herein. * E P.
