CITRUS FRUIT
LEMONS PLENTIFUL
The supply of New Zealand lemons was exceeding the demand at the present time, but grape fruit production was not equal to the demand, the Minister of Marketing (Mr. Barclay) said in the House of Representatives yesterday in reply to Mr. F. W. Doidge (National, Tauranga), who claimed in| an urgent question that retailers were j complaining of a shortage of lemons while there were plentiful stocks at Tauranga. Mr. Barclay said that stocks of lemons had piled up because supplies exceeded the demand, which was greater than in previous years. Because of the shortage of grapefruit prices in Wellington were up to 15s a bushel, and 21s a bushel had been realised in Auckland.
