FAIR TO FINE

COOL TEMPERATURES

Special forecast for Wellington:—

Light to moderate and variable winds.

Weather fair to fine, but cool

The general forecast for the Dominion as a whole is for fresh to strong but gradually decreasing southwesterly winds in North Auckland ana on. the Otago and Southland coasts, while winds otherwise will be light to moderate and variable with southerly directions predominating. Occasional scattered showers will probably continue in the west and in the far north and south, but the weather for the most part will be fair. Temperatures will be cool with inland frosts tonight.

During the last twenty-four hours the depression off the West Coast of the South Island has advanced over the Dominion, and it was located this morning in the East Cape area. Fresh to strong winds between west and north-west prevailed to the north of the depression, with a change to southwesterlies after it passed. The weather has been unsettled generally with frequent showers; and in parts of Otago and Southland there has been hail or snow. Temperatures have been cold. Fresh to strong winds from between west and south were blowing this morning in the Hawke's Bay-East Cape area, where showers still persisted, but the weather otherwise is now fair to fine and winds have moderated. Farewell Spit ha? recorded 94 points of rain and Kaipara Signal Station 91 points. It was cloudy to overcast in all the four main centres yesterday. The south-westerly change reached Dunedin, Christchurch, and Wellington early yesterday morning, at midday, and late in the afternoon respectively, and in each case it was followed by cold and showery weather. Although Auckland did not experience the southwesterly change until early this morning, it was showery during most of yesterday. Wellington's maximum and minimum temperatures yesterday were 53.7 and 43 degrees, and only 30 minutes of bright sunshine were recorded.
