LONDON, December 5. His Majesty the King will spend several days in France inspecting positions in the front line and the Air Force. , : The visit was kept so secret that the troops first learnt of it by * broadcast tonight. His Majesty departed from England without ceremony. Despite stormy seas he remained on th« bridge throughout the voyage. Destroyers and planes^ escorted the Royal warship, which two French warships and a number of planes met near France. The party arrived at 3.30 p.m. Th*r« was no ceremony except for the boatswain's piping. Field-Marshal Lord Gort, General Brownrigg, and Ad-jutant-General Voruz, head 6f the French mission at British-headquarter*, accompanied the party in camouflaged cars. : As the party drove off the townspeople recognised his Majesty and excitedly waved and shouted, "Vive. 1* Roi." His Majesty changed cars because of a breakdown before reaching the head* quarters of Lord Gort after, nightfall.
