WARM AND WINDY

Special forecast for Wellington:— Strong north-westerly winds. Weather fair to cloudy and warm.

The general forecast for the Dominion as a whole, issued at noon today for the ensuing twenty-four hours, is for a prevalence of northerly to northwesterly ..winds. These will be light to moderate in the northern half of the North Island, but elsewhere will be fresh to strong, gale force being reached'in places. Winds, however, should decrease in, force somewhat tomorrow. East of the ranges and in the north the weather will continue fair to fine. Elsewhere it will be cloudy to overcast, v/ith occasional rain in the western and far southern districts of the South Island. Temperatures east of the ranges will be warm, and mild elsewhere. A , . , The anticyclone to the north is slowly moving eastward, while a trough of low pressure lies to the south. Winds consequently have been-mainly from the north-west, and they freshened considerably yesterday southward from Cook Strait and reached gale,force m a few places. Over most of. the North Island, however, winds were light. The weather has been fair to fine, except in the southern part • of Taranaki, Westland, and Southland, while the disturbance to the southwest resulted in just over- an inch of rain being recorded at Puysegur Point. Temperatures in Canterbury have Sbeeii very warm, and mild to warm elsewhere. Auckland's weather has been fine and warm, with passing cloud and a light south-westerly wind. Yesterday's maximum and minimum temperatures were 71 and '55.8 degrees respectively. Although it was cloudy and at times threatening in Wellington yesterday, 7.4 hours of bright sunshine were reporded. The north-westerly wind freshened during the day and became strong and gusty last night. Mild temperatur.es ranged between 63.8 and 56 degrees as the maximum and minimum. Christchurch had fine and sunny weather yesterday with some high cloud. A light north-easterly breeze gave place to a strong north-westerly wind, and temperatures rose rapidly in the afternoon to a maximum of 83 degrees. Last night's minimum was 55 degrees. The wind this morning had decreased somewhat.

It was cloudy to overcast in Dunedin yesterday, with a strong northwesterly wind and warm temperatures. The wind this morning had moderated.
