WHO "SPILT THE BEANS"?
(To the Editor.) Sir, —I notice in your paper of December 4 the Prime Minister, in his last Sunday night's broadcast, says that "recently so much nonsense has been talked and written about the alleged danger of Socialism in our country that one might think we were in the middle of an election campaign." Surely, from this statement, one would gather that Mr. Savage's aim is not to socialise New Zealand, as he goes on to glorify the democratic system of government and the- alleged enviable freedom we still enjoy in, this country. I think he should have said we used to enjoy. In another part of the same issue I see Mrs. Stewart, M.P. for Wellington West, in replying to a toast of the Labour Government at Greymouth, said: *'There is. no question that we [the Labour Government] will bring into being Socialism in our time, and very soon." She also denied that there was any split in the Labour Party. Now, as the utterances of the Prime Minister and\ Mrs. Stewart are, to me, at complete \variance, which of the two is to be believed? Has Mrs. Stewart, in the way of woman, "spilt the beans"?—l am, etc., WELLINGTON WEST.
