PUPILS ENTERTAIN

ELOCUTIONARY RECITAL

A large and most appreciative audience was present on Monday evening at St. Francis's Hall, when Miss Mary Doolan presented her pupils in a recital of outstanding merit.

Choral verse-speaking of New Zealand poems by Eileen Duggan and Kathrine Mansfield, and poems by G. K. Chesterton, Eugene Field, and Padriac Colum was a feature of the evening, being presented by senior and junior choirs from St. Mary of the Angels Convent, and by a choir from the Petone Convent. Shakespearean, character, and humorous recitations and musical monologues were given by Marian Stephens, Kathleen and Carol Eriksen, Moyra Dunn, Mella Love, Joan Ryan, Margaret Minehan, Marie McEUigot, Loretto Cunninghame, Maria and Elaine Garland, Margaret, Patricia, and Winnie Perkinson, Frank iCurtin, Teddy House, and Teddy Walsh. Mr. George Broad gave a prepared speech. Miss Pauline Fuller, a young girl with a singing voice of much freshness and promise, sang "The Little Damozel." Miss Loretto Cunninghame gave.much pleasure with a pianoforte solo, and later, accompanied by Miss Zita McMahon-Box, played a violin solo.

An amusing sketch, "A Dog's Life," saw the appearance of Miss Clara Sharpe, and Messrs. E. Crutchley, R. Fisher, and J. Doolan, with a delightful little puppy, "Towser."

The concluding item was "A Minuet Dream Scene," "Grandma's Day," which, was attractively lighted and frocked. Those taking part were Miss M. Benjamin as grandma, and the dancers were Misses M. Tiller, M. Fisher, M. Love, L. Cunninghame, P. Fuller, M. Minehan, M. and E. Garland.

Miss Doolan was presented with a bouquet and gift from her pupils by little Margaret Perkinson.
