SIR HUGH IN GOOD FORM

Sir Hugh is not often produced in races, but on his day he can be very hard to beat, and not only was he sent out favourite for the Highweight Handicap at the Kurow Meeting last Saturday but he won very easily. At his previous start this gelding was eighth favourite in a field of ten at the Gore Meeting, where he finished fourth after trying to lead all the way. For the last nine months Sir Hugh has carried the colours of the Oamaru trainer J. Ross, whose horses are at present under the care of.N. J. Dwyer during Mr. Ross's illness. Now six years old, Sir Hugh is one of the first of the Philamors, and he is out of the. Solferino —Dame Straitlace mare Mistress Quickly, a half-sister to Quite Soon and Spartan and descending from the successful Madowla taproot.

Maharajah, the name of the Bulandshar—Choral colt in H. B. Lorigan's stable, was selected by the late Sir Thomas Wilford.
