UENUKU FAVOURED

CUP TRIAL AT WAIKATO

(By "Ariki Toa.")

Chief interest at the Waikato Trotting Club's Second Summer Meeting; at Claiidelands on Saturday will centre in the Auckland Cup Trial Handicap, an event inaugurated this year with' a view to offering northern Auckland' Trotting Cup candidates an outing before the big Christmas event.. - It is understood that the winner will not be penalised, which should encourage the keenest competition. / It is possible that the favourite will be-Uenuku, who is looked upon in some quarters as certain to win the Auckland Trotting Cup. He was started from 84yds behind last Saturday and ran a satisfactory race, but naturally from such a mark his prospects of winning were hopeless. However, the race is sure to benefit him considerably in his preparation, and he looks certain to play a prominent part.. He is a brilliant sprinter, and th£ 12yd» handicap should not greatly affect hinrri : There is no -more consistent j>acer? racing than Kenworthy, and his record* since he commenced racing . is, impressive. This season he* has appeared) on only three occasions, and, although not securing a win, he has been in' the minor money each time. He can be relied upon to do his. work correctly all the way, and he appeals as the] most formidable - candidate for Uenuku.

There is a speedy lot listed on the front, and the pace is certain to be on all the way. Bayard and Three Bells are brilliant beginA^rs, likely to be in the firing line all the way, while Fernbrook Lass and Star Pronto are previous winners on the course. Red Flush and Our McKinney would probably appreciate a longer distance,* but both are equal to surprising. Kewpie's King and Our Peggy have both, been successful this season, and; the latter is an exceptionally, fast mare* over a mile and a quarter. Sandusky is ah unlucky horse and he does not appeal as a prospective winner. It. is a race full of possibilities, but. on latest showings it is difficult to co past Uenuku and Kenworthy.
