ST. JOHN AMBULANCE
A well-attended meeting of members of the Johi-sonville sub-centre of the Red Cross Society was held on' Wednesday evening at Johnsonville. Mr. C. Meachen, hon. secretary of the National Blood Transfusion Service, delivered a talk on blood transfusion, pointing out that there was still the need for men and women to join this humanitarian service. Mr. Meachen said that a blood donor was not performing an act of heroism as he was ircurring no risk whatever, and no doubt numbers of young men and j | women would be willing to act as < donors if they understood how great were the benefits they would confer and' how little they would themselves i suffer by. the' operation. j Opportunity was also taken to screen .the St. John Ambulance Association's j films dealing with artificial respiration, the blood, and digestion, i With the year drawing to a close the St. John Ambulance Association is no\y\ conducting examinations, and on Thursday evening last. 90 candidates attended the association's rooms in Vivian Street for their first aid examination, the examining doctors being Dr. Edward Gibbs, Dr. H. K. Pacey, and Dr. Keith Bridge, The same evening a number of candidates were examined at the V W.C.A, in the subject of home nursing, the examiners being Dr. C. Powles and Dr. K. Alexander.
