CANTATA'S SMART TRIAL
The Addington track was in splendid order for training operations on Thursday morning, and in most instances exceptionally fast time was recorded. No fewer than six Trotting Cup candidates were in action, with Blair Athol and Cantata easily eclipsing other times.
The high light of the morning was the resolute performances of Blair Athol .(D.'C. Watts) and Cantata (H. Smith). Blair Athol had lsec start from Cantata and dashed over the first two furlongs in 32sec, the halfmile in lmin 4 4-ssec, the six furlongs in lmin 38sec, the mile in 2miri 9 3-ssec, and the mile and a quarter in 2min 43sec. Once in line for home Cantata tackled Blair Athol, both horses finishing in fine style. Blair Athol registered 3min 13 3-ssec for a mile and a half, and Cantata did 3min 12 3-ssec. Their trial will ' gain them many friends for the New Zealand Trotting Cup. Parisienne (D. C. Watts) and Lucky Jack (R. B. Berry) were sent a mile and a half. Parisienne had lsec start from her stable-mate, and made the pace for a mile and three furlongs, where Lucky Jack challenged, but could not beat her. There were only inches between them at the winningpost, where Parisienne was going the better of the pair; The first two furlongs were covered- in 34 l-ssec, the half-mile in lmin .6 2-ssec, the mile in 2min 13sec, and the mile and a quarter, in. 2mm 45sec.
