FAITY RING

IN ANSWER TO

Pixie People:

Guy Faivkes Day has arrived at last, and Letterbox Elf, Printer Man, and I wish you all the fun of.the Fifth! All around the Ring tonight bonfires will be blazing merrily. For weeks past we've heard the chatter of crackers and the surprised clatter of throwdoivns, even in the busiest city streets, while last weekend, ivhen the Elf and I ivere busy weeding the primrose-beds, the largest and noisiest rocket paid us a surprise visit. We hope it frightened off every slug and snail for miles around. I have just finished judging the entries for the painting competition, with Letterbox Elf's assistance, for such a tremendous pile of paintings needed two pairs of hands and two opinions. Not one entry arrived without a mount or a frame, and each painting loas neatly and carefully coloured, so you can imagine what a gigantic task it ivas to choose the six bests. The first prize was icon by a Nelson pixie, "Curly Dew" aged 14, of Stoke. Very closely after her came "April Violet* (14), Wadestown; then "Pom Pom" (11), Island Bay, "Jumbo" (9), City, "Periwinkle" (12), Eketahuna, and "Annie Rooney" (14), City.

Paintings which almost won prizes were sent by Patrene Full (11), Northland, Audrey Sands (11), Berhampore, "Bubbles" (12), City, and "Great Greenfedther" (14), Johnsonville. Visitors to the Ring will be able to see the dainty pictures of Spring.and her Flower Chariot set in original frames made by pixie artists. Congratulations, prize-winners!
