TRANSPORT MEANS

TRAMS, BUSES, BOATS

VERY FREQUENT RUNS

MORE MACHINES OUT

Public transport systems will equally be tested on a fine Wednesday, but within the limits of available rollingstock the time-tables for trams, buses, and ferry boats are complete. Too much detail will be confusing, nor is much detail needed, for the routes and runs are clear. Trams, increased now to a fleet of just under 200, will run from Lambton every two .ninutes from 9.30 a.m. till 11 p.m., with extra cars starting from the Midland Hotel corner, Courtenay Place, and John Street. Considerably more cars will run via Wallace Street, so that Brooklyn and Te-Aro people can reach them by walking by Webb Street. Only Miramar trams will run into town by the tramway tunnel, at tenminute intervals, the main return during heavy traffic hours being made over Constable Street. Buses will take care of Hataitai and Kilbirnie passengers travelling towards town during the traffic peaks. There will be some rearrangement of routes during certain hours, but they will not involve serious complications. Passengers not going to Rongotai should note the route numbers until they get used to the few changes that are to be made. GREAT FLEET OF BUSES. Between the -City Council's fleet of approximately 60 buses, another 20 (with probably more to come) of Rongotai Buses, Ltd., the Eastbourne Ferry, and the Railway Road .Services machines, a record combined fleet for New Zealand will be on the roads. The city buses will run miinly from Courtenay Place, John Street, and the Island Bay tram terminus, but through buses will also run between Karori and the Exhibition. The Rongotai Bus Company will operate chartered buses, mainly from the railway station and from Clyde Quay, near the Central Fire Station, following the Evans Bay route to the main entrance to the Exhibition. Eastbourne and Railway buses will run under special arrangements set put by the Wellington District Licensing Authority. The two Eastbourne ferries, Muritai and Cobaiywill run between the Ferry Wharf and the Miramar wharves each evening and on Saturday and special days, and morning and evening between Petone and Miramar. Feeder buses will run between the Miramar wharves and the Exhibition. Extra bus and train services will be run from the Manawatu, Wairarapa, and Hutt Valley districts. It is essential that bus traffic shall be kept moving freely and certain streets and parking and turning spaces are therefore closed to private car traffic. Here again is a need for co-opera-tion by motorists, to ensure the smooth running of the whole transport system —trams, buses, boats and feeder services, not forgetting the pedestrian., Because of the great volume of tram, bus, and pedestrian traffic in Couits Street between Rongotai College and the aerodrome, drivers bf private cars will be directed to avoid this length at all times when big crowds are moving at the Exhibition entrances.
