NEW YORK, November 3.
Mr. Hallett Abend, Shanghai correspondent of the "New York Times," says that, while the Japanese are hurrying their preparations for the installation of Mr. Wang Chingwei, general Japanese, indignation against America is steadily mounting, despite occasional appeasing statements.-
Statesmen in Tokio and high Japanese military figures in China declare: "America is driving us into the arms of Russia through her refusal to recognise the new order in East Asia."
It is obviously hoped 'that ihe dangers of a Russo-Japanese rapprochement will cause the United States to modify its stand. Japanese army, leaders are insistent that they would prefer to meet Russia halfway instead of appeasing America. , Only the naval and diplomatic ; classes prefer friendship with the democracies if it can be obtained, since they are without delusions that . Russia will long permit Japan to retain the hold which she plans to s •
secure on China.
