BLOEMFONTEIN, Nov. 3.
The political situation has been clarified as a result of the head committee of the United Party approving by 28 votes to 18 the policy of the Government and disapproving of the conduct of members, who refused to accept the decision of Parliament.
The dissentients, led by General Hertzog,. the former Premier, left the congress.
■ Subsequently, General Smuts was given an ovation at a meeting at Bloemfontein, at which he declared that the Union of South Africa would keep its promise to defend British territories in Africa.
