DEFENCE PRECAUTIONS
BELGIUM'S HOPES
(Daventry Broadcast.) LONDON, Friday Night. Germany's neutral neighboursBelgium, Holland, and Switzerland —continue their defence precautions. The Netherlands military authorities have ordered all canal boats to leave the Juliana' Canal, which gives direct access to Germany, and have forbidden members, of foreign forces to enter frontier districts, in which martial law was proclaimed last Wednesday.
.The advance of winter has enabled the Swiss to relax mobilisation. Heavy snow has fallen in the mountains, and as it is worth whole divisions of troops, it has enabled the Swiss army command to release several thousand men from the colours.
A communique issued in Belgium after the Foreign rAffairs Committee •of the Senate met expressed the hope that Belgian neutrality might be maintained. It .was stated that the situation was being qjjpsely watched.
