R.A.F. FLIGHTS
ONE MACHINE FAILS TO
RETURN

LONDON, October 17
The Air Ministry announced that a number of Royal Air Force planes carried ■ out a successful reconnaissance over western and north-western Germany yesterday. One machine has not returned.
Amsterdam reports that a German pursuit plane compelled a British plane to land near Lingen, in Germany. The British plane struck a farm building and caught fire. The three airmen, one of whom was wounded by machine-gun fire, were saved.
The Allies are working day and night for mastery in the air. states a message from Paris. Within a few months the French aeroplane output will be five times as nigh as the peacetime output, and it is stated officially that there are grounds for hoping that the British and French potential production may be three times that of Germany."
