PETONE GAS BOARD
Appreciative comments on the production report were made by members of the Petone and Lower Hutt Gas Lighting Board at the monthly meeting held last night. It was stated that the report was the most satisfactory to be received for a long time. During September 13,288,000 cubic feet of gas was manufactured from 721 tons of New Zealand coal, an increase of 2,319.000 cubic feet over the figure for September of last year, and an average make per ton of 18,551 cubic feet. There are 1722 tons of native and 81 tons of Australian coal in stock.
Coke manufactured totalled 430 tons, of which 230 tons was used in the producers, and 5057 gallons of tar was also manufactured. Sales comprised 288 tons of coke and 220 gallons of tar. It was reported that the tar in stock would be readily disposed of to local bodies for road work.
Various improvements carried out at the plant have been highly successful. Assuming that the horizontal retorts are making 11,000 cubic feet of gas per ton. the make of the C.O.L. plant is estimated at 19.870 cubic fee per ton. In addition. 32 new services. 21 new cookers, and 39 new meters have been installed and 98 meters changed.
