AMERICA AND WAR
I Mir. Eugene van Antwerp, National Commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Association, told thousands of delegates gathered in the Symphony Hall at Boston recently that the United States must inevitably participate in a world war. "We might as well accept the fact," he said. "We know from experience that belligerents have no respect for the rights of neu-. trals. We know that force is our only defence against invasion and our rights as a world Power." Americans declared that they did not want war, he added, but they would not tolerate anything that threatened American peace or security.
