ON TRENTHAM TRACKS

FINAL GALLOPING

DISDAIN DOES BEST HALF

(By "Rangatira.")

The storm that drenched Trentham in the early hours of yesterday morning had a short life, and this morning the weather was again bright and fine, though a strong wind reaching gale force at times swept the course during working hours. The outside of the course proper was in main use for fast gallops, the going being still dead and not drying out as quickly as might have been expected.

There was not a deal of serious testing, and what there was was chiefly over short distances.

Disdain was one of the first to gallop, and her 50sec for half a mile was not equalled. Just before her Wings of Song ran the distance in 51sec and was going easily at the close. Malik Kafur took 52sec.

Submission, doing it well, was alongside Ruatiti after half a mile in 50isec. Homily did her last half-mile in 53sec, and Entail took 55sec. Centrepoise was worked over a round, finishing up with half a mile in 52sec.

Baran was just in front of Areas at the end of five furlongs, the last halfmile in 51isec. Beaulivre did air easy half-mile, and he looks more robust than ever before. Old Surrey's last half-mile took 52£ sec. Play On easily beat Cymric over six furlongs, the last half-mile in 52Jsec.

Brunhild was going well in beating Coronado by a couple of lengths over half a mile hi 52Jsec. Old Bill and Earl Colossus took the same time. Indian Sun required s,3§sec, and Siegmund was never extended in running his last half-mile in 56sec.

Yours Truly, ridden over the last furlong, came away from The Bigot after seven furlongs in lmin 36sec, the last half-mile in 56sec. Haughty Winner and Rabble were together after seven furlongs in lmin 34sec, the last half-mile in 53sec. Beaupartir and Raeburn finished on terms after a comfortable six furlongs in lmin 24sec, the last half-mile in 55sec. Royal Star II beat Lowenbei'# and Peter Beckford after a similar trial in lmin 20sec, the last half-mile in 53isec.

Lady Furst, who looks very well, and is said to have improved greatly as a result of her recent race, at Hastings, came down from the three, furlongs without pressure in 41§sec. Sceptre took 42sec. Black Robe" and Cherry Bay ran 39sec. On the trial grass Blonde Princess ran the distance in 42sec. Blonde Princess and Sly Fox came down from Auckland by float yesterday and Sly Fox was showing signs of stiffness this morning, though he (will still start tomorrow if he throws it ofl. R. Johnson gave Minority and Eupatrid only easy work. Aussia Ra is a picture of fitness and he ran three furlongs in 40sec, a good effort for a hurdler.

Kathbeblla was injured on the journey down as far as Masterton and she has been sent back to Hastings.

In the only sprint down from the half-mile barrier Khurja, with an advantage in the weights, stayed on better than Indore, the latter being an front-till the last, furlong.

Good Sun (A. Lord) and Sunee (L. T. Nesbitt) gave a sound display over a couple of hurdles. Silver River (H. Smith) jumped five hurdles true and cleanly. Lucullus Lad (I. Rohloff) fenced better than Debham (Lord) over four hurdles. Good Sun will not run tomorrow, and Lord will take1 the mount on Aussie Ra. Silver River* Debham, and Lucullus Lad came in for the final days' hurdles, and Lucullus Lad has attracted .notice as a very likely recruit to the game. The only South Islanders on the track were Haughty Winner, Rabble, Cymric, Mishna, and Esperance Bay, but the remainder were expected to arrive during the course of the morning. This is the latest the main batch from the south has reached Trentham. Mishna and Esperance Bay (who schooled well yesterday) have each done excellently since. Masterton, Mishna .in particular looking better than ever previously.

With the weakening of the field for the Wellesley Stakes tomorrow, it is now considered possible that Enrich as well as Absolve will start in the classic. The stable won this race last year with Beaulivre, and though Enrich has not yet been a winner he might easily have won at both starts he has had to date.
