PROVINCIAL TOURNEY

FIRST ROUND

There was a strong, chilly westerly wind, but it was fine and the course was in good order for the first round of the Women's Provincial Golf Championships at Heretaunga today

The following are the results:—Miss P. Helean beat Mrs. Hunt 4 and 2; Miss S. Buchanan beat Mrs. H. Newton, 5 and 3: Miss P. Bell beat Mrs. Thurgood, 1 up; Miss S. Collins beat Mrs. Stout, 7 and 6; Miss C. Wilson beat Miss J. Hornabrook, 3 and 1; Miss C. Smith beat Mrs.'Lewis, 4 and 3; Miss Jefferd beat Mrs. D: Wilson, 3 and 2; Miss J. Duncan beat Miss Nutt, 8 and 7. NOTES ON PLAY.. Miss Helean was out in 40 and needed two s's for a 77 at the sixteenth. She was 2 up at the turn. Miss Duncan had a bad hole at the sixth, but otherwise went out well and was 6 up at the turn. Miss Buchanan was out in 41 and 2up in the turn. Her opponent was missing short putts. Miss Bell was 2 up at the turn. Miss Collins was out in 42 and was 4 up at the turn. Miss Jefferd was 2 up going to the fifteenth. She won that and halved the next. HERETAUNGA TROPHY. The following were the results of the Heretaunga trophy:— Mrs. Morris beat Mrs. Foreman, 9 and 7; Mrs. Welton-Hogg beat Mrs. Tripe. 7 and 6; Mrs. Park beat Mrs. Monkman, 1 up; Miss D. Thompson beat Mrs. Dudley; Mrs. Chapman beat Miss McClure, 3 and 2; Miss Pearce beat Mrs. Hewitt, 2 and 1; Mrs. Wiren beat Mrs. Elsmore, 3 and 2; Mrs. Whatley. beat Mrs. Mcßae, 2 and 1.
