TWO-HOUR BATTLE
FISHERMEN'S REPORT
WARSHIPS IN NORTH SEA
(Daventry Broadcast.)
LONDON, Monday Night.
A naval battle in the North Sea on Saturday afternoon is reported by Norwegian fishermen who returned to the mainland today. They saw three warships and. several- planes, which they believed, to be British, attacking a solitary warship. The battle lasted two hours, and they followed it through telescopes. Whether the solitary warship was sunk or not is not known. Some of the fishermen said they believed she was sunk, but another crew of a fishing smack which had to make a detour round the battleground do not confirm this. They say that the solitary warship was badly damaged and was settling in the water, and as she evidently attempted to escape into Norwegian territorial waters the planes and the warships turned away westward.
