NEED FOR CAUTION

WHEN THE WAR IS WON

AVOIDING ERRORS OF

VERSAILLES

BOSTON, October 16.

Professor Anton de Haas, of the chair of International Relations at Harvard University, declared that Germany had already lost the war. The time of her collapse depended on the period during which the Nazis could balance their books with a gun.

He cautioned the Allies, in the event of victory, to avoid the errors of Versailles. A bankrupt Germany would be a fertile ground for Communism. The Allies would find that with the defeat of Germany they would be faced with a more disturbing problem. Russia would thereby be aided in establishing Communism throughout Germany. For this reason the conservatives, the middle classes, and the industrialists hesitated to revolt against the Nazis.

He urged that the Allied peace aims should be to offer Germany equality and aid in solving her. financial chaos with the ultimate goal of European co-operation to overcome economic problems.
