AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP
. Three further games of the Welling-1 ton amateur provincial championship were played at Messrs. Billiards Limited's showrooms last night. Results:— H. Looner (Victory Billiard Room) 99 T. Garbett (Windsor Billiard Room), 81; L. Moffit (St. George Billiard Room) 123, F. L. Stewart (R.S.A.) 82; S. Moses (C.P.O. Pastimes Club) 90. J. L. Petley (Commercial Travellers' Club) 64. Play'in the tourney is now approaching the semi-finals, and a considerable improvement is noticeable in the play. Looner settled down from the start against Garbett, and with the balls breaking more in his favour, ran up a first-game lead of 60-21. His opponent, however, more than made up the leeway in the second and only lost the bout by the last two balls. Moffit, who is one of the most skilful exponents of the game in the championship, was closely run by Stewart, and in the first game held only a slight advantage. Clever tactical play was witnessed in the second game, but Stewart was outplayed by superior potting. The final game also provided really good snooker, Petley taking practically all the colours in the firct game, and thereby establishing a lead on Moses. The second game was a struggle throughout and both men made the most of every available chance, Moses eventually winning. ... Tonight, starting at 7, three _ additional matches will be played m the following order:— Molloy (Petone Working Men's Club) v. Looner (victory Billiard Room); Moffit. (St. George Billiard Room) v. Hayvice (Jewish Social Club); Davies (Miramar Billiard Room) v. Corn (Jewish Social Club). Tomorrow night the two semi-finals will be contested to determine the finalists, who will play on Thursday, at 7 p.m.
