SKIING ON HILLS

(By Telegraph—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, July 9. The south-westerly gale, ac-, companied by rain, hail, snow, and sleet, which has been sweeping Canterbury since the middle of last week,. continued today. Though there were short spells of clear weather at Christchurch. there was no indication of sustained improvement. The bad weather, however, did not cause any serious flooding. The main trouble was in North Lin« wood, where, during the construction of State houses, a drain was filled in to allow the transport of materials This caused the back gardens of several properties to be flooded, and poultrykeepers and gardeners were caused much inconvenience and loss. The Wahine was nearly two hours late yesterday and the Maori an hour late today. Tho south-bound Union Airways aeroplan*- was 45 minutes late this morning, but otherwise the timetable was maintained. Snow on the hill roads made it necessary for motorists to use chains in many cases, but there was no serious dislocation of traffic during theweekend: - '■ There was some skiing on Cashmere Hills Most sports were postponed on Sat*. urday. only senior Rugby f nd Associajtion football being played.
