During tlie weekend, pressure continued to rise with the approach of an anticyclone across the Tasman Sea. Consequently, moderate to strong southerly winds -. prevailed, frequently reaching gale force in eastern districts. Tn western areas south of Taranaki, tho weather was mainly fair to fine and cold, but elsewhere conditions remained showery, with hail and snow at times and very cold temperatures. Today, tho anticyclone is centred over the Tasman Sea and extends on to N<nv Zealand, while pressure has fallen over eastern Australia.
