OBITUARY
MR. M. GAFFNEY
Mr> Michael Gaffney, who retired i some time ago after many years of i service in the Police Force, died yes- ; terday at the age of 67 years, i Joining the Police Force in 1897 after >. having served for about two years in t the Permanent Artillery, the late Mr. Gaffney was first stationed at Auckland, but in 1904 he was transferred Iffto Wellington and attached to the staff of the Commissioner's office. In 1907 he was promoted to sergeant and in 1910 he was transferred to Dunedin, , going to Invercargill in the following - year as district clerk. Latefc in the i same year he returned to Wellington i to a similar position, and in 1917 he ■ was promoted to senior-sergeant. He r retained the position as district clerk : until 1930, when he was apppointed to - take charge of the stores department. ■ He retired in February, 1936.
