LIFE-SAVING INSTRUCTOR

An interesting development in the activities of the Royal Life-saving Society in Sydney is linked up with the appointment of Miss R. Stephanie Thomas as the first woman organising instructor for the society, states an exchange. Miss Thomas has just completed her education at the Presbyterian Ladies' College, Croydon. She holds all the awards of the society except the diploma. Her duties will include the organisation in girls' secondary schools of life-saving classes, and where necessary she will give instruction in swimming. She will train girls to take charge of the classes once they have been established, but it will be her responsibility to maintain supervision over them. The object of the training, which will be in still water, is to extend the number of people with a knowledge of how to act in an emergency.
