CLERICAL WORKERS
AWARD PROCEEDINGS
Agreement was reached by the parties in the Industrial Magistrate's Court today upon the terms of the Taranaki, Wellington provincial, and Nelson clerical workers' award, which if to be issued by the Court
Mr. F. P Walsh, for the union, and Mr. H. J. Bishop, for the employers, informed Mr. J. A Gilmour, S.M., that complete agreement had been reached in conciliation council, except for the matter of exemptions of the stock and station agents', the public accountants' and the agricultural and pastoral associations' clerical. workers. Since then the parties had agreed that the stock and station agents' and the public accountants' employees should be exempt from the clerical workers' award, and the only outstanding question was the exemption of A. and P. associations.
Mr. Bishop presented argument and evidence in support of the claim of the A and P. associations for total exemption, and it was agreed by the parties, on the suggestion of the Magistrate, that a clause should be inserted in the award exempting the associations from the overtime provisions of the award during show periods in exchange for extra holidays for the employees.
