CZECH PRESIDENCY
FILLING VACANCY
DR. BENES UNPOPULAR
FORMER FOREIGN POLICY QUESTIONED
(Received November 12, 11 a.m.)
PRAGUE, November 11
The designation of Dr. Benes's successor as President of Czechoslovakia is likely to be made at the weekend.
The Foreign Minister, M. Chvalkovsky, is the strongest candidate for the office.
The turn of opinion against Dr. Benes is further revealed by the action of the Czechoslovak Shipping Company, which has cancelled a proposal to name its finest ship Edouard Benes.
The newspaper "Venkov" demands the withdrawal of photographs of Dr. Benes from stamps.
M. Chvalkovsky informed party leaders that while he was abroad for three years as a diplomatic representative he sent constant but vain warnings on the trend of Czech foreign policy, his counsels not being followed.
