THE DUCE'S JOKE?
If the Italian Government has expelled Mr. Edward Kleinlehrer, the Rome cbrrespondent of the Jewish Telegraphic Agency, in pursuance of its new racial policy, then this particular case represents an odd change of front, says the "Daily Telegraph and Morning Post." When the Duce went to Libya in March, 1937, every journalist in the "motor caravan" was given a car nu-nbe.:. He had to keep to the same car for the whole of the trip. This meant that willy-nilly his closest companion for many hours each day for ten days was the other journalist allotted a seat in that car. Surprise was expressed when it was seen that Mr. Kleinlehrer's travelling companion was to be Herr yon Langen, the head of the Nazi organisation in Rome. Inquiry from officials elicited the information that this was no accident, as the seats had been most carefully scrutinised by a "Very High Authority Indeed." Eighteen months ago one end of the axis could be a little naughty and pull the leg of the other.
