ODDTA IMPROVING

ORIENTAL BAY PROMISING

(Special to the "Evening Post.")

AUCKLAND, November 11

The popularity of. the Te Rapa track ! is made evident by the fact that no less than 47 horses were entered for the Trial Stakes on the opening day of the Waikato Spring Meeting, and it is pretty certain that the event will have to be divided once again. Last year the race was worth £270, the £200 stake being built up by a £3 sweepstake for starters. Without being rushed, Oddta is making good progress in his preparation and he should strip a much fitter horse next time out, which will probably be at the Waikato Meeting. This three-year-old brother to Scotland has done very .well since having his first and qnly race to date at Whangarei, where he showed a.lot of speed for half a mile, and he should not be long in starting his winning career. ENGAGED IN CLASSICS. The speedy two-year-old Konneta is being kept going, although she will not. be required to race until the Great Northern Foal Stakes at Ellerslie on Boxing Day. In her two outings so far this filly has acted as runner-up m the Auckland Welcome and Wellington Wellesley Stakes respectively, so that, in view of her limited experience, she may be a much-improved galloper next time she sports silk. By Bulandshar, she is a half-sister to Sergia, a likely Cup winner this season. Erination was weighted at 13.7 for the Rangitoto Hurdles on the opening day at Avondale, but he was not accepted for. This could not have been on account of the impost, for he won at Ellerslie last month with 13.0, and apparently he has been kept for the second day. He is the best jumper produced in the north for some seasons, and even with 13.7 on Monday he will not be out of it. When Oriental Bay was defeated on the first day at Whangarei he could be regarded as having been most unlucky, for he did not have any the best of it. On the second day he was always prominent and was Palpating in a stern duel with Kenneth Robert when he left his opponents to it and literally ran away with the stake It was a remarkable exhibition of soeed and revealed this King Lv jIlS* as a" maiden above the ordinfry He is to have his next race at Avondale on Monday, his engagement bring in the Apprentices' Handicap, seven furlongs, and he should be diffiC<lt teeS&ed that Marie's Acre will bPseen in action in the open sprint at Avlndale^n Monday, «x£ to of his success each day of the Auck land Meeting five weeks back he should race prominently, despite tne we°ght hf will receive. He is expected to take high rank among the middle-distlnce The deeds of Stretto are smi.fresn in mind, and this mare will .again be on hand to deal with the leading threehalf brother by Bulandshar, Hign cS?°s built on much bigger lines, and on h& only appearance to date when he finished third to Anopheles Sd Konneta in the Welcome Stakes at EUerslie last month, he indicated that, he is going to be: good also. The younger member of the fam ly is to have his next outing at the mid-spnng fixture at Ellerslie, opening a fortnight fS today, and he looks like winning SSot both of the twc^year-old events Wonders in connection with racing will never cease. At the Ohraemuri Meeting six weeks ago Tudor broke down in the hurdle race and so bad was he that it was with difficulty that he was got back to the stalls He hasoften gone wrong before but it.jeajg looked at Paeroa as if the Little Eri^ land gelding had written finis to his racing career. However, he is among the Intrants for a hurdle race at Ellerslie a fortnight hence, and it would not surprise if he were to be found at the barrier on that occasion. He has won this race before when the meeting was conducted by the now defunct Takapuna Jockey Club.
