MILE RECORD BROKEN
LAWN DERBY'S FEAT
LOGAN DERBY CONSISTENT
(From "Ariki Toa.")
The rating of the speed by the driver of Lawn Derby in his assault on the time record was splendid, the first two furlongs taking 28 3-ssec, the half-mile 58 l-ssec, six furlongs lmin 28sec, and the full journey lmin 59 2-ssec. He thus becomes the first two-minute pacer outside of America.
Another Australian in Logan Derby registered an outstanding performance to run 2min 39 2-ssec in the Free-for All, which brought him a well-deserv-ed success. His earnings for the meeting with a first, a second, and two thirds totalled over £900. The other races were splendidly contested, and the majority of the events were productive of close finishes.
