THE OPTIMIST.
(Original.)
The sun had not climbed Into the sky, The bell had not chimed From the church nearby, And the frost on the lawn Was silver . And white • Like the stars of the night; For, grey and forlorn Was the pessimist's dawn. The cock had not slept , A wink since three. From his perch he had crept To the branch of a tree, And he crowed with such mirth Such joy And delight, Like a jester of night Till the pessimist's earth Joined the optimises mirth. NANCY HANRON (14), Nelson.
